About Matthew Wood
Matthew graduated from RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia, in 2002 with degrees in Clinical Science and Osteopathic Science. He practiced as an osteopath in Melbourne for many years, owning and operating his own clinic.
In 2009, he moved to North America with his wife, where in 2015 he graduated as a Doctor of Physical Therapy from the University of Washington. After graduation, he joined MTI Physical Therapy, and completed both Residency and Fellowship programs in Orthopedic Manual Therapy through the Ola Grimsby Institute (OGI). He is a Board Certified Clinical Orthopedic Specialist, and is the manager of MTI’s First Hill clinic.
Matthew enjoys the “general practice” aspect of physical therapy, where he gets to work with patients from all walks of life. He works extensively with athletes, specializing particularly in basketball, and has patients playing in leagues from local elementary schools to the NBA. His experience as a former professional-level player and coach led him to further extensively study both jumping and landing. He regularly consults for the Seattle University Athletics department and several local sports teams around the Puget Sound area.
He also has a passion for working with patients who have had poor experiences with rehab in the past. He values open and straightforward communication to make sure everyone is on the same page at all times.
Matthew has taught at his alma mater in Australia, and continues to do so for the Ola Grimsby Institute and MTI Physical Therapy’s Sports Residency program. He has instructed continuing education courses in manipulation and osteopathic technique across the United States, and is actively involved in both mentorship and providing continuing education opportunities for MTI and the OGI.
Away from the clinic, he is a voracious reader and owns probably the largest collection of Doctor Who books you’ve ever seen. He is forcibly-retired from competitive Ultimate Frisbee and basketball, but continues to run around very slowly while playing Australian football. Matthew loves being a dad.
