Athletic Movement Index (AMI)

wearable sensor technology is available to measure your movement and performance

At PT Motion Lab, we prioritize your safety, performance, and recovery with personalized treatment plans. Now, we have a cutting-edge tool to enhance that process—the dorsaVi Movement Suite. This advanced system uses wireless wearable sensors to objectively measure your movement, just like those used by Olympians and pro athletes.

Tracking range of motion, acceleration, and muscle activity at 200 frames per second, dorsaVi provides precise, visual data for performance analysis and muscle re-education. With this technology, we can fine-tune your movement for optimal results.

Our AMI assessments are offered in partnership with PTMotionLab and are offered at our Bellevue, WA, and Edmonds, WA clinics, as well as our First Hill clinic in Seattle, WA.

All services are self-pay and collected at the time of service. Visit the PTMotionLab website to schedule.

how does it work

The dorsaVi Movement Suite uses low-irritant, disposable adhesive pads to attach movement and muscle sensors (EMG) to your skin. Movement sensors, about the size of a USB stick, track bending, twisting, and motion, wirelessly transmitting data to a pager-sized Recording and Feedback Device (RFD) connected to our software. We also capture video to visually correlate movement data.

Previously available only in elite biomechanics labs, this technology is now accessible to everyone. It provides quick in-clinic assessments with immediate visual feedback for movement retraining. Unlike lab testing, dorsaVi also tracks movement outside the clinic, monitoring real-world performance. Whether you’re running on different surfaces or testing fatigue levels, we can analyze how you move, identify asymmetries, and refine your technique for optimal performance.

what can the dorsaVi movement suite measure?

The dorsaVi Movement Suite can be used to measure movement and muscle activity on different parts of your body, or it can be used to enhance technique or optimize performance in activities like running.

Benefits of the AMI:

  • Identifies movement inefficiencies that impact performance.
  • Provides precise limb symmetry data to determine return-to-play readiness.
  • Optimizes rehab and training by tailoring programs to individual results.
  • Tracks progress and compliance with rehabilitation and training.

Who is AMI for?

  • Athletes assessing movement risk factors before the season.
  • Athletes seeking efficient, measurable performance improvements.
  • Athletes experiencing pain or limitations in sport-specific movements.
  • Coaches, parents, and athletic directors identifying impairments affecting performance and injury risk.
  • Serious athletes refining motor patterns for peak performance.

The AMI screen with dorsaVi captures real data to set clear goals—whether improving performance, reducing injury risk, or ensuring a strong return to play.

cost:

$200 for a 1-hour testing session. Results include a written report that can be shared with your medical practitioner, trainer or coach. Additional training visits may be required to fully educate the athlete as to their results and corrective exercises to improve performance.
