MTI Physical Therapy is proud to offer an accredited Sports Residency program to qualifying MTI employees

This program is built with the needs of the athlete to progress and transition from initial tissue healing, clinical rehabilitation, return to play and return to competition. This program provides a theoretical foundation for addressing all athletes through evidence-based practice and clinical experiences through many different sports, varied levels of competition for athletes, and field experience.

Steps To Apply:

  1. The first step is to apply for a full-time position at MTI. To do so, fill out our employment application form or contact our HR Department.
  2. Once hired by MTI, complete the enrollment application for the MTI Sport Residency program.

*The program is also open to all current MTI employees regardless of completion status of past Orthopedic Residency or Manual Therapy Fellowship program.

hear from a graduate

“Prior to completing my Sports Residency program at MTI Physical Therapy I didn’t have confidence in my clinical decision making, manual therapy interventions and exercise selection. MTI’s Sports Residency program gave me a very strong theoretical framework for manual therapy and exercise selection, which allowed me to get to the right interventions faster for easier patients and to adjust as needed for more complex patients. Additionally, mentoring sessions are one-on-one for a full hour 2-3 times per week, which provides ample in-person opportunities to get real-time feedback on concepts and techniques covered during class. Now that I have graduated, I am a much more confident and efficient therapist.”

– Kyle Buckham, PT, DPT, FAAOMPT

“PT school gave me a solid foundation of skills but I knew I wanted more; more information, more hands on work, more learning. As soon as I stepped foot into MTI, I knew the environment was made for learning as demonstrated by the consistent mentorship and discussions of every therapist. Going through the sports residency program, I was able to understand the “why” to every part of evaluation and treatment which substantially improved my critical thinking and hands on skills. This information, mixed with substantial opportunities of acute on field sport management, has shaped me into a therapist who strives to continue learning and mentoring other health professionals, patients and athletes.”

– Greg Niven, PT, DPT, SCS, CSCS

“MTI offers a rigorous sports residency with an emphasis on orthopedic manual therapy and on-field sports emergency management. The program helped me create a systematic evaluation flow to improve my differential diagnosis skills, gave me deeper insight into tissue healing stimulus and timelines, and provided structured mentoring with more experienced therapists. I was also trained in emergency sports medicine with a variety of athletes in the field. These experiences allowed me to integrate my foundational knowledge with my personal practice of sports manual therapy, which I will continue to develop upon for the rest of my career.”

– Steve Chappell, PT, DPT, SCS
