About Uchechi Esonu
Uchechi Esonu was born and raised in Seattle, WA. Her journey to becoming a physical therapist was shaped by the belief in healthcare as a tool to directly serve people by encouraging positive relationships with their bodies and increasing community participation.
She moved to Brunswick, ME, to attend Bowdoin College in 2009, where she completed her bachelor’s degree in East European Eurasian Studies and Political Science while captaining the women’s rugby team. Upon graduating, Uchechi lived in Croatia as a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant (ETA) for a year before working in market research.
While studying international relations and community building during her time abroad, Uchechi noticed many outsiders trying to come up with prescriptive solutions that could not meet community needs. Subsequently, she learned that it’s essential to develop plans customizable to individual needs, instead of applying prescriptive solutions to personal and political issues. After this realization, she found that healthcare would be an ideal opportunity to directly serve people. All of Uchechi’s experiences fostered an interest in therapeutic exercise, sports performance, and community building, ultimately leading her to pursue a doctorate in physical therapy from the University of Washington in 2023.
Joining MTI allows Uchechi to provide patient-centered sports and orthopedic care while working with a friendly and empowering clinical team. She looks forward to providing quality care that enables patients to fully participate in life’s activities on and off the field through MTI Physical Therapy’s Sports Residency program. Uchechi also has an interest in women’s health and postpartum care.
Outside work, Uchechi can be found training for weightlifting competitions, exploring new restaurants and cafes, or on the couch with a good book.
