Learn More About Julie

Dr. Julie Baron is the Director of MTI’s Pelvic Health & Performance Center. She received her BA in Biological Sciences in 2005 from Colby College in Maine and earned her Doctorate in Physical Therapy in 2009 from Rutgers University in New Jersey. During her professional training she received multiple awards for excellence in academics, research, leadership, and community service. After starting her career in her home state of New Jersey, Julie relocated to Washington in 2012 where she pursued her love of sports and orthopedics at Proliance Sports Therapy & Rehabilitation and PHENIX Physical Therapy & Personal Wellness.

Julie’s interest in orthopedics is fueled by her experience as a competitive tennis and softball player. Her passion for physical therapy and her deep empathy for her clients comes from her own experience working through decades of chronic pain and multiple leg surgeries. When she became a mother of two, she discovered her interest in both prenatal and postpartum care, as she struggled with her own orthopedic issues and pelvic pain during her pregnancies. Her first pregnancy resulted in an unexpectedly traumatic labor and delivery complicated by pre-eclampsia. Her second pregnancy was complicated by a separated symphysis pubis and severe pelvic pain that persisted into the postpartum period.

During this time, Julie unsuccessfully sought treatment from multiple pelvic health specialists and medical providers before connecting with a pelvic physical therapist who was able to listen to her needs and enact a plan of care that could help. Her own difficulties with an obtuse healthcare system during and after pregnancy has motivated her to help others who are navigating the same obstacles: locating compassionate providers, understanding the limitations of insurance companies, and finding individualized care that validates each person’s unique experience.

Julie has completed rigorous coursework in prenatal and postpartum care, pelvic floor training, gender affirming care, and prenatal and postpartum fitness. Her treatments are rooted in a holistic approach, considering the whole person and the outside stressors that impact their current state—functional movement, sleep, nutrition, and stress. This approach allows for the thorough identification of musculoskeletal issues in need of repair and improved results for the client. Through exceptional patient care, the use of evidence-based treatment programs, and a collaborative approach with other healthcare providers, she believes her patients can achieve the goals they had previously deemed impossible.

As an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) Section on Pelvic Health and the National Strength and Conditioning Association, Julie has presented her original research at annual state conferences; led symposiums on lumbar fusions, cervical fusions and ankle rehabilitation; and provided in-services to personal trainers at local gyms. She remains active in the research community with her publications on virtual reality’s role in rehabilitation and the role of a physical therapist in screening patients for depression. Julie continues to further the profession through her medical missions to communities in Haiti and in her collaborations with the Special Olympics. Her interests include enjoying time with her husband and two children, hiking, traveling, cooking and volunteering.

Karyn

Karyn Schultz, PT, DPT

  • Physical Therapist
  • Doctor of Physical Therapy
  • Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists
  • Pregnancy and Postpartum Corrective Exercise Specialist
Learn More About Karyn

Karyn Schultz graduated with a B.A. in Biology from Carroll College in Helena, Montana in 2009 and a Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska in 2013. After graduation, Karyn began working with MTI Physical Therapy where she honed her orthopedic and manual therapy skills through the Ola Grimsby Institute (OGI) residency and fellowship programs. Over the next six years, she spent time living in Montana and other parts of Washington where her clinical practice began to gravitate away from traditional orthopedic physical therapy and more toward pelvic health and the treatment of the whole person.

Her own experience with pregnancy and raising a newborn during the first year of the pandemic has deepened her empathy for the many complexities and challenges that parents may face. As a clinician, she is highly attuned to the immense emotional, mental, and physical stressors that can impact a person as they navigate their way through the pregnancy and postpartum periods.

Karyn has a firm belief that as a pelvic health physical therapist the body needs to be assessed as a whole, not just from within the confines of the pelvis; you will rarely find her giving Kegels as homework! She believes in the importance of being attentive to a patient’s unique pelvic health and fitness goals, while respecting whatever barriers or trauma the patient brings to each session without shame or guilt.

Karyn has a special interest in prenatal, postpartum, and perimenopausal care, including perineal/c-section care, pelvic pain, incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, bowel movement dysfunction, sexual health, diastasis recti care, and mastitis/clogged ducts. She has a growing interest in treating the pediatric pelvic floor and is looking forward to accepting littles and their parents in 2024 at MTI’s Pelvic Health & Performance Center.

Outside of physical therapy, she spends her time chasing a toddler around, reminding them that pee and poop go in the potty. Having recently moved back to the Seattle area, Karyn is most excited for weekend hikes, trying to fit in yoga and exercise, learning Pacific Northwest gardening, and finding herself again outside of parenthood.

Clare Antonioli, PT, DPT

  • Physical Therapist
  • Doctor of Physical Therapy
  • Pregnancy and Postpartum Corrective Exercise Specialist
  • Certified Pilates Instructor
Learn More About Clare

Clare Antonioli is originally from Missoula, Montana. She graduated with a B.S. in Wildlife Biology and a B.A. in Dance from The University of Montana in 2013 and a Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Regis University in Denver, CO in 2019. Her passion for Physical Therapy developed after attending a comprehensive Pilates certification in New York City. Clare graduated with high honors with her Doctorate in PT and pursued her love of pelvic health physical therapy in her home state of Montana. During this time she built up a pelvic health program and became the assistant manager of her clinic. In 2023, she relocated to Washington state with her beloved dog Kiwi.

Clare was fortunate to have discovered her interest in treating the pelvic floor prior to starting physical therapy school. Through this interest, she was able to tailor her education to allow for greater learning opportunities in pelvic health related topics. She has taken extensive trainings in pelvic health, pregnancy and postpartum care, visceral mobilization, and functional dry needling. Clare believes in a holistic approach to healthcare — her experience and advanced trainings have helped shape her philosophy in treating patients.

Our bodies work as a system, not in isolation, and Clare strives to treat the whole patient. She creates a supporting environment for her patients, which allows them to focus on what they need. As such, she has been able to focus on pregnancy and postpartum rehabilitation, working specifically in intrapartum care and giving people more agency in their delivery process. While holding space for her patients, she has also focused her work on providing gender affirming care, while being an ally of the LGBTQIA+ community. In addition, she is working towards education in visceral mobilization and functional dry needling.
