What Patients Think About Private: Katie Okun

"I came into MTI in bad shape with a severe lower disc bulge and a fused SI joint. After receiving an epidural steroid injection I thought surgery was my next and only step. Katie quickly addressed my condition and reset my mental state that this was fixable with proper therapy and time. After six months I was nearly fully recovered without surgery! Both Katie and James did an amazing job of slowly rebuilding my strength and flexibility which allowed my body to heal. I can’t say enough good things about both of them and the business as a whole."

About Private: Katie Okun

Katie is a certified yoga instructor, modern dancer, and movement enthusiast who earned her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the University of Washington in 2015. She landed in the physical therapy field following an eclectic career path in yoga, fitness, the performing arts, and social services. She transitioned to a career in physical therapy as a way to marry her interests in anatomy and physical function with a lifelong desire to be of service to others. After graduation, she took a position in a small clinic with a focus on manual therapy and a specialty in dance medicine. Katie started working at MTI Physical Therapy’s Fremont clinic in 2019. She recently completed the Orthopedic Manual Therapy residency program at the Ola Grimsby Institute.

Katie is passionate about providing intelligent, compassionate, and thoughtful care to people experiencing pain and dysfunction. As a yoga instructor, Katie taught adaptive, trauma-informed yoga to young people experiencing significant life challenges, in addition to teaching in studios and training other yoga instructors. She believes in the body’s potential for healing and improved performance and enjoys supporting people in the process of discovering new ways of moving and being in the body. She has been involved with local volunteer efforts through Street Yoga, Seattle Dance and Performing Arts Medicine (SeaPAM), and Dance for Parkinsons.

Outside the clinic, Katie enjoys relaxing with her husband and two young children. She finds embodiment and satisfaction in the pursuits of yoga, dance, biking, hiking, swimming, and lifting weights.
