MTI Physical Therapy believes in a holistic approach to wellness. This approach sometimes includes other modalities in addition to Physical Therapy to help our patients on their path to healing.
Our new Therapeutic Center, located on the second floor of our Bellevue Clinic, offers the following alternative treatments:
Massage therapy is the manual manipulation of soft tissues, which includes muscles, tendons, ligaments and connective tissue, in order to enhance a person’s health and well-being. While massage therapy can help to reduce stress and anxiety, it can also help to relax muscles and to assist in the rehabilitation of injuries, reduce pain and restore an overall sense of wellness to a client. At MTI Physical Therapy, we offer both relaxation massage and rehabilitative or therapeutic massage, based on our client’s needs.
There are two forms of Craniosacral Therapy (CST), both of which are beneficial for people of all ages, from moments after birth to 100+ years old. It is performed on a massage table using very light touch, while the client is fully clothed.
Biomechanical CST is a noninvasive, gentle type of bodywork that focuses on the bones of the head, spinal column and sacrum. The goal of biomechanical CST is to release compression in those areas while supporting appropriate movement, which can help to alleviate pain and stress.
Biodynamic CST is a type of gentle hands-on treatment for the whole body that helps support the client’s nervous system. This modality was established as a result of osteopath Dr. William Sutherland’s discovery of the body’s subtle rhythms, which he refers to as “The Breath of Life.” The Breath of Life produces a series of subtle rhythms that can be detected in the body and which make up an integrated physiological system. Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy focuses on treating the whole-being and acknowledges the deep connection between the body, mind and spirit. As such, it can be an effective form of treatment for a wide range of challenges.
Somatic Experiencing (SE) was created by trauma therapist Peter A. Levine, PhD. It is a gentle, holistic, non-invasive, and effective body-based modality that focuses on resolving the underlying root causes of trauma rather than merely managing its various symptoms. It is especially effective for working with fears, anxiety, chronic stress, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), as well as other physical and mental trauma-related health challenges. This is accomplished by gently, slowly, and respectfully helping the client attune to their perceived body sensations, which safely release the energies held in the body that manifest as traumatic symptoms.
Trauma can develop from a number of sources including chronic stress and actual or perceived life threats. Stress can seriously affect a person in a number of ways — to name a few, it can affect a person’s body, mind, emotions, behavior, sense of well-being and relationships.
